Welcome to December: Inspiration for your Winter Wedding

Yes, it’s true, according the Wedding Bells 2015 survey, 67% of weddings occur between June and September, but personally, I LOVE a good winter wedding.

Here is a little inspiration for those of you who are thinking about a winter wedding:

Happy December!

TBT - My intimate 2008 beachfront winery wedding.

Throw back Thursday y’all.

Happy Thursday folks.  In celebration of throw back Thursday this week I want to take you all back to July 18th, 2008 – the day I tied the knot.

Since the launch of Cara Mia Events in March of 2010 I have had many folks ask me about my own wedding day.  Was it huge and elaborate?  Was it over the top and glamourous?  Well, like most of you out there, my wedding was about my husband and I sharing our day with close friends and family.

We got married at a small beach front winery in Harrow Ontario.  The day flew by quickly and we enjoyed every moment to the fullest.  With a small guest count of 98 guests we kept things relaxed and full of love.

So without further ado I take you back to 2008 - a special shout out to our amazing photographer Amy Britton of Britton Images for capturing our day so beautifully and giving us these photo memories which we will cherish for the rest of our lives.  Thank you Amy! :)

Congratulations 2014 Full Planning & Design Clients: Photo Round Up

Ring Photography: Fotoreflection

Well, I have officially finished the last of my 2014 weddings, but before we get cerebrating the holidays and ringing in the new year I wanted to share a few of my favourite weddings from the 2014 season.  (More photos from my 2014 season are coming soon in the event gallery on my website... check back often for new updates!!! :) )

I worked with Kate and Danny for just over a year to plan this stunning black and white wedding.
The wedding ceremony and reception, held at the Dundas Valley Golf and Curling club, both went off without a hitch.  This lovely couple was amazing to work with and their wedding day was so full of beauty and joy.

Angela and Steven  - Hockley Valley Resort

Steve and Angela, who both live in northern Alberta, were amazing to work with throughout the 8 months that we spent planning this wedding (mostly at a distance).  We had to take advantage of every moment that they were in town the few months before they said their i do's.  The wedding turned out absolutely stunningly.  We worked hard to come up with a design that matched their personalities and would "wow" their guests.   This one definitely goes down on my 'all time favourite weddings' list! :)

Tian and Stacy -  Spencer's at the Waterfront

I absolutely LOVED designing this this wedding using the fresh red and teal colour palette and super cute pinwheel accessories.  I worked with Tian and Stacy for 6 months and the end result was breathtaking. (I also had the opportunity to deign an e-session shoot for them - photos coming soon on the site)

Lisa and David - Private Residence

I worked with Lisa and David for a very short planning timeline of TWO WEEKS.  In that time we planed everything from dress to design and there wasn't a moment to spare.  The design concept and decor came together just as imagined - everything was soft and romantic for this perfectly intimate at-home wedding.

Laura and Jeremy - October 2014 - The Edgewater Manor

Laura and Jeremy's wedding was so uniquely personal and captured their spirit in every way.  This purple lego themed wedding included so many personal touches and even ended with a lightsaber battle!  Check out all this awesomeness!

Taming Wedding Inspiration Overload

Looking at wedding eye candy is a great and fun way to explore the possibilities and become inspired when planning your wedding.  I fully support (and participate) in a good daily dose of wedding eye candy with my morning coffee!  The possibilities really do seem endless!  The internet is FULL of sites that allow you to "like","pin","fave it","+Pin","love","bundle"  and more.  With all of the emerging ways (and new ones that seem to pop up every day) to view and store the wedding inspiration, it is easy to lose site of your own wedding amongst the chaos.  Is scanning through thousands of gorgeous wedding photos online starting to make you feel overwhelmed? Unfocused? Confused? Well, let's try tame that inner inspiration junkie!

1. Focus your searches
Before you start furiously "pinning" and collecting photos and ideas for your wedding take a few minutes to give yourself a road map to follow during your searches.  Write down your top 5 "must haves" for your wedding and focus your searches on what really matters to you.   Let this list of 5 things bring you back to centre when you start to lose sight of the event that YOU are planning.

3.  Pick your theme and don’t collect images that don’t fit.
Picking a theme can help you search strategically using key words that apply to your wedding.  Ask yourself, does the really awesome picture of the “hanging lanterns in the forest” REALLY go with your theme?  If not… let it go!  You will find plenty of great ideas that DO work with your theme and budget!

2. Keep your inspiration organized.
Picking just one platform in which you store all of your wedding stuff can help keep you organized when planning your wedding.  Having everything stored in ONE place allows you to focus in on your ideas and see them all together and see what works and what does not.  Whether you choose an online site inspiration site like pinterest, a wedding planning site, a folder on your desktop or a simple binder… just keep it ALL in one easy to access location.

4. Know your own DIY limits.
Yes, there are some AMAZING DYI projects out there that can really give your wedding great personal touches… but before you hit the craft store, consider the amount of time, energy and creativity that you have to bring to the project.  If the project doesn't mesh with what you have to give, choose to either hire someone who can do it for you, or pass on the project and choose something that better suits your needs and ability.
**bonus tip:  before buying all of your supplies in bulk for your wedding DIY project, buy just enough to try a prototype and make sure that it comes together the way you want it to!

5.  Keep your budget in mind:
If your budget is unlimited, then by all means, let’s pull out all the stops!  If not though, remember that you don't have to have EVERYTHING to have an awesome and memorable wedding!  Refer back to your list of must haves often and focus perfecting them first.  If you still have room in your budget after all of the must haves have been taken care of… let’s bring in the extras!

Happy planning!
